PAScapes researchers Marija Drėmaitė and Viltė Janušauskaitė (Cultural Landscapes and Heritage Group) presented their ongoing research at the DOCOMOMO (Documentation and Conservation of Modern Movement) 19th International Conference “Multiple Moderns: Climate, Community, Creativity” in Los Angeles, USA (March 17-20, 2026). Conference took place at the University of Southern California, School of Architecture.
At the session chaired by prof. Wido Quist of TU Delft, Drėmaitė and Janušauskaitė presented the talk “Eco-Social Reframing of Mass Housing Modernism: The Case of Lazdynai”. By focusing on the process of developing a Lazdynai Conservation Management Plan, this research sheds light on the complexities of preserving such hybrid urban environments. It contributes to the broader international discourse on twentieth-century modernist heritage-particularly in relation to eco-social values, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community agency in (post)authoritarian contexts. Ultimately, it advocates for the inclusion of such sites within global heritage frameworks and contemporary educational models that critically and creatively engage with modernism’s diverse legacies.
