PAScapes

We are a team of historians, geographers, philosophers, sociologists, heritage researchers, and archaeologists at Vilnius University, united by a shared commitment to exploring the intricate interdependence between society and the environment.

This commitment led to the establishment of the (Post)Authoritarian Landscapes Research Centre, initiated by the Faculty of History in collaboration with the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Chemistry and Geosciences. The Centre is built on the belief that addressing newly emerging challenges, particularly in the context of the climate crisis, requires an interdisciplinary approach to foster new insights and deeper understanding.

Our Research Focus

Collaboration. We seek new methodological approaches that enable the innovative integration of data collection and analysis tools from various humanitarian, social, and natural (physical geography) disciplines.

Comparison. We are dedicated to facilitating international collaborations and fostering partnerships with researchers from diverse backgrounds to conduct comparative analyses of societies that have experienced authoritarianism.

Awareness. Our work aims to explore the connections between local communities and their cultural landscapes, fostering a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage and enhancing community resilience.
