“Nemunas World”: Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant

This time, the Centre’s team of historians, dressed up as never before, sends their greetings from the Kaunas Hydroelectric Power Plant, one of the objects of research of the “Nemunas World”.

The Kaunas Hydroelectric Project, which was completed in 1959, can be considered the most significant landscape transformation in Lithuania. Today, the hydroelectric power plant is still functioning and open to visitors. The team of historians was welcomed by a guide who told them about the plant’s current state, showed the most important facilities and presented the way it functions.

Although, the hydroelectric power station was reconstructed in 2010, somewhat changing the overall picture, the introduction to the site, the stories and professional explanations about the technical solutions told by the staff will undoubtedly be useful for the research that is already under way.
